In general we do not reccomend that players use any overrides when playing here. Some though are benign and only affect the client. Others can cause issues for fellow players and the server as a whole. "Bad" overrides which cause issues for other players and/or the server are not allowed and can result in a banning if it's found that players are using them. I'll post examples of each here.
Benign Overrides: (only affect the client IE ... you the player only)
CEP Heads -
With our June, 2014 hak updates, there is nolonger a reason to use CEP (or other) Head overrides here. Just use the PC Customising options we have here to access even more options than those found during PC creation.
Visible Hands -
Also in our June, 2014 hak update was the addition of -real hands-. Clientside overrides are nolonger needed to sse your fingers IG, that goes for toes too.
Sound Sets - neverwintervault.org/sites/all/modules/pubdlcnt/pubdlcnt.php?file=http://neverwintervault.org/sites/neverwintervault.org/files/project/787/files/soundset.2da&nid=787
This file goes into your Override Folder. It enables expanded voiceset options during character creation.
Portraits -
In general, custom portraits are only a client side issue. They can become a lag issue for the clients when folk download some of the "mega-packs" found on the vault. Since portraits are a type of override, the more you have in your portrait folder, the more CPU is needed when running NWN. If you've unexplained graphics bugs, are eternally laggy when no one else is or it seems that your area loading times are always slower than other folks ... try thinning out your portraits folder so that it only contains portraits you are likely to ever use and those your friends use. Thinning down your options can speed up many slow or low ram computers.
Additionally, we included a large selection of custom portraits as part of our June, 2014 hak update. You can now select any of these new portraits via our PC Customisation System once IG.
Terrain Overrides -
Most of the -default- terrain overrides that are commonly available are included in our own hak sets as on June, 2014.
ACP - As of June, 2014, the ACP is included in our custom haks here.
Bad Overrides:
In general ... any override that changes a tileset's walkmesh or object sizes is bad.
Clothing Overrides - If you've a clothing/armor override that consists only of replaced/retextured appearances then it's likely benign. If it adds or renames appearances then like the ACP above it IS causing issues. (Many of the older "JenX" overrides especially) You'll know its a "bad" one to use here (and most places) if the override required a 2da and not just model parts and textures.
A safe rule of thumb for any override is, if it affect what is seen and requires a 2da, it is bad. If it is only replacing models and textures, but lacks a 2da, then it likely is benign. When in doubt, PM me and I'll gladdly look into them for you.
For those wondering, there is no way "we" can tell which if any overrides a player is using while playing here. What we can do is trace the incidents of errors generated though. If they start when you log in and stop when you log out, we'll figure it out. If we are forced to do this though, there will be no warnings given. Consider this post your one and only warning. Folk using overrides/haks that generate serverside errors/lag will simply be banned with no advance warning.
