At the end of a adventure I have noticed that dividing the loot between player requires that the items be laid on the ground to see what has been collected. Could there be a party loot dividing table in which all the items collected could be placed in one spot. Much like how you find the loot in a crate or a barrel. Each player then can decided what they want and the rest can be collected and sold.

Some parties don't ever lay out the things, and just say one or two of the more "special" items, and if anyone is interested, they get to see it. I, of course, have no final say in this, but I would bet that Kal won't go for it. Think of all the possible places that a "general loot" barrel would have to be put. Any real reason that you would think a barrel would be better than the ground anyway? Is a serious question, not baited at all. Just curious.

A barrel would have everything contained and not spread across the ground. I though it would be less messy and quicker. It just seemed like dropping things on the ground was a poor work around for dividing goods between players.

Whether here or on other PWs, I've usually let whoever is selling determine what if anything gets displayed. I know if my own characters are gathering and then selling stuff for the party, I usually sell all the low end stuff and then set out any healing potions, vauleable scrolls and enchanted items. What no one wants, I then sell and then split the total.
I rarely save every last thing that is found for selling either. If I find healing potions, I usually split them up with the "meatshields" during an adventure. Healing kits I usually give to an unselfish PC that stays back and tends the others wounds repeatedly. If there's a mage in the group and a scroll we find would benefit them, then I usually hand it over when found. (all of this assuming the party agrees and they usually do) so by the time we all get back to town to divy up our loot, there's usually not alot to be debated. I suppose it often matters who you traveled with and how well you know and trust them too.
As far as a "barrel" to dump loot into to divide up ... I can see many exploits involved with that and would rather not do it.
Saddly, it only takes a few to ruin things for many of us, so avoiding exploits and sometimes making it tougher on us all is a neccessary evil. We've tested "trusting" players to obey OOC Rules here many times and added things that we knew could be exploited, and they were. Often by long time players we've known for years.

One of the exploits I see with a barrel is that if someone in the group grabs something from the barrel, nobody would be able to see who did it. It's a bit easier when everything is on the ground.

I see your point. I play the game to play and not to exploit. I wasn't think how people could take advantage of it. My vision was a table in a inn or tavern that the items could be put into not a barrel. We are adventures not Hobos. But it seem it can't be done without being exploited.
What about a designated area that is open, unobstructed, and is visually clean in towns to conduct such laying down the loot. An area where its private or out of sight. So we don't have to do it in the street. It just doesn't feel right to just lay down the stuff out on the ground with everybody walking past.

Erm like the expanse of free space in the general store in Orlbar then? Right next to where most parties sell their goods?

There's also Elvenport, Arsey, with no little open spot (at the moment) that isn't full of grass or road.

The general store in Orlbar is often used this way as it's a fairly large expanse of open floor. Grassy areas can be a pain if you play with your resolution at anything but the lowest settings possible. So I'll look at adding more "clear" spots in other areas to help with this and likely increase open floor space in most general merchant areas.
