Something I’ve always liked is getting xp for exploration. Doesn’t really matter how much, it was just nice too see. Makes poking your head into every nook and cranny on the server actually worth a value beyond sticking your head in every nook and cranny.

We've discussed this in the past here and plan on adding something in the future. It's still a ways down on "The List" though.

We've discussed this in the past here and plan on adding something in the future. It's still a ways down on "The List" though. After a few years of pondering this subject, I've decided against adding Bonus XP based on exploring maps. Why? Well, I feel its like paying someone just to get up and go to work in the mornings. Paying someone to "work" is well and fine, but offering them a further incentive to get up and go to work? I see "Exploration XP" much the same way. I mean, "you're" already adventurers, you get up, go out and explore. You find new areas, creatures, etc... . You gain XP for foraging, fishing, defeating foes, picking locks, removing traps, etc... . If XP is the only reason to explore a PW (any PW), then that Pw isn't likely suited to your playing style or temperament.
