Here's a list of what can be expected when we relaunch the server under EE along with explanations as to "Why" some things are being decided.
Horses
The Riding Skill will be disabled so that new characters do not waste putting points into the skill accidentally.
Q: Why?
A1: Because we will continue to use our unique scripted and often random spawn system which keeps areas, especially wilderness ones, replayable and challenging. Having mounts has the risk of a character overwhelming themselves by triggering far too many encounters at once when they rapidly move through areas. Short tests in the past left the testers frustrated despite the movement speed increase a mount provided.
A2: If mounts lacked a speed increase, why bother with them at all then. We will continue to use our robust travel and teleporting systems so that players can lessen their overland travel times when traveling to regions they've already explored.
A3: Overall server performance is increased. Not having to enforce "No Ride" areas like building interiors, dungeons and others means memory is freed up on the server to manage all the other things we enjoy instead.
Actual Subraces.
Demihuman characters will no longer just be dwarves, elves, etc... . Dwarves will now be either Shield Dwarves or Gold Dwarves. Elves can choose from High, Wood or Sun Elf variants. Gnomes and Hins will have options as well. No Underdark races other than the dwarves listed above will be available to play as characters, at least initially. Each subrace will have ability bonuses and preferred classes as per the FRCS and other 3.0 to 3.5 sources.
Starting gear, languages and other things you initially receive when you create a character will be linked to your chosen starting region of Faerun.
New Classes and Prestige Classes
Details to follow as tweaks and changes are made during initial play tests.
New Spells and Domains
Details to follow as tweaks and changes are made during initial play tests.
Revised crafting, foraging and character customization options
Details to follow as tweaks and changes are made during initial play tests.
Completely New Haks
Some of our old haks do not play well with the EE version of NWN. Hence, we'll soon have a new list of haks to download for the module when it's ready to be played. Quality over shear variety is going to be the focus.
Ground up rebuild of the server
With the above mentioned issue of some old stuff not working well with EE, we'll be remaking the entire server from scratch. Don't worry though. Many of our custom scripts and other things will be copied over and reused and sometimes revised for the new module and to take advantage of new scripting commands unique to EE. This will allow us to rebuild and expand and a decent pace as we relaunch.
Travel Systems
Travel to distant locations via boat and other methods will continue. The teleport options to areas your characters have previously visited will also remain a part of the new server.
Level Caps.
Initially, we'll cap character levels at 5th level. As new areas and adventures are added, the level cap will be raised.
Anyone having further questions or suggestions can make posts under our Suggestions thread.
See you all soon!
