So I've seen a few other servers with furniture or objects that can be used to rename various objects, be they equippables, containers, placeables or what-have-you. This can have any number of uses, from roleplay flavor to inventory management to creative gifts. Nadira (my new Zakharan Rogue, replacement for Orna Siltelis and — with Kal's blessing — eventual Rogue/Assassin) collects vials of various poisons and keeps them in four or five neck pouches, and I'd like to rename those pouches "Weak Poisons," "Deadly Poisons" and so on, the better to keep her poisons manageable (and so I'm not wasting Deadly poisons on a weak-butt kobold shaman, wasting Weak poisons on a minotaur chieftain who's just going to shrug them off, or whatever).
The roleplay flavor's a big one for me too. For a Chauntean Paladin like Barleigh, a scythe named "Soul Drinker +3" doesn't have the same compatability or flair as a scythe named "Bitter Harvest." And compared to the likes of "Nor'easter," "Icesplitter," "Fatal Winter," "Song of Uthgar" or similar names for mighty, frosty weapons, Falteine's fabled "Bastard Sword +3 - Icing" just lacks panache.
How doable would this be? Thanks in advance.

I avoided adding a feature to custom name items mainly because it gets abused many places. By abuse, I mean the following things:
1 - Players being idiots and using foul language and racial slurs amongst other things. With our low number of both players and DMs this is hard to police and hence avoidable by not having this feature.
2 - Players representing items as crafted by their own characters even when said character is incapable of it.
I believe I have a DM Tool for renaming items. I'll look into it tomorrow (Thursday) and if it actually works folks can PM me with requests to rename items for them.
As for the addition of "special" containers to help find/sort/denote different items in game easier, give me a list of suggestions and I'll get some more bag/container varieties added to a couple of merchants.

Even though I like to think that all of our regular players are too mature to do that, and even though other players usually can't see what we've named our characters' equipment most of the time, I could just see some drive-by griefer (like ye olde Jerank) renaming a club the "Unholy [Sexual penetration]stick" or the "Klansman's [Black person]killer +5" and leaving it somewhere for other people to happen across. Well, that's just individuals being lazy, stupid and/or self-aggrandizing. What, these dudes can't even resort to the tried and true (albeit cliché to some degree) "This mighty sword was passed down through my family for generations, and my father gave it to me with his dying breath" and "The God of War/the Lady of the Lake/[insert powerful, unearthly entity here] descended from On High and gave this to me so that I could fulfill my destiny" backstory devices? I see your point, though. Perhaps we could create a subforum specifically for players requesting that certain items in their characters' possession be renamed, yes? (And I would like to see a poisons-only container in-game, if I may request them...preferably as one of the 1x2 containers, like the ones for arrows, bolts or thieves tools; those only weigh half a pound, which makes quite a difference if you have several of them, one for each poison strength.) And one thing I noticed while I was playing Nadira last night: If you succeed in applying poison to a blade, the blade remains poisoned for a minute or two (and thus can poison several enemies, if you're quick about it), instead of the usual one-hit duration! When did you change that? I approve!

One of the main servers I play on EE has this feature...It's not Basic HCR permadeath but it's more action based RP server...RP is still enforced. It's called an Item renaming tool: the placeable is an interactive table. You click on it and an inventory page opens. How it works is A). You type Rename: ((Item name)) then place the item you want to rename in the inventory page, then B). Press enter or disenage the table and hit enter and the item is now named what you typed after Rename: ...Another Feature, two that I introduced are the surgical kit and a Jar of Leeches. The surgical kit (I can't really explain what the icon looks like...sortof looks like a wrench and occupies 2 inventory boxes, one and another above that inv. box..The ones in here occupy 4 inventory boxes and are'nt as handy (IMO) can't be stacked upon and occupy too much space. You roll 1d100 and (not exactly sure how he designed the mechanics of it) (in alfa server) and multiply by your heal score or I'm not sure how it works TBH...but the higher the roll and heal score....the better the success. in this server 8 is a good heal score and provides a very good chance for success...(So level 5). That's just an example...Remember this PW I play is HCR, permadeath, and healing is very costly. Surgical kits in there cost 5-8 gp's (Depending on your appraise score) and can't be used on yourself. You have to be in a group to use them and you can only use them on a party member. Maybe you can feel the way it should be applied in here out to a more suitable procedure...like they cost the price of a CLW potion at Myrtas (35 gp's)? and the required heal score has to be maybe 12-15 as a very good score like 8 in there? If you roll a lower score (In WD server) you damage your target depending on your roll (1d100) and Heal score...1 is instant death (Cut an artery). The Jar of Leeches costs the same as the surgical kit but Heals poison and disease..It depends on your heal score again. And the lower the roll; then you take damage (and can be knocked unconscious!!). If a High roll...the procedure succeeds and the poison or disease is sucked out by the leeches and the inflicted takes no damage. Leches can be used on yourself though. Another feature is The Bards performance in a Bar or tavern. In WD there are 4 bars and for the first bar you need to reach 100 followers to go to the next bar and recieve more xp and gold per performance. The 2nd bar is 200 follower the 3rd 400 the 4th 800. The higher ranking bar and the more gold and xp per show. Say there are 6 patrons in the first and you get a contract from the proprieter to perform (so many times a day), When you perform, each patron has a certain DC to beat and if you win you get gold and xp's. The bar has a DC, in the first bar in WD the DC is 0 or 1..I'm not exactly sure how he scripted the procedure but it's on the alfa Waterdeep Forum. As I was explaining eahc patron has a DC and your roll (d20) + your perform score has to beat the patrons DC and if you win you get xp and gold! Maybe you'd like to add some of these features in here?

If you have ideas and comments on things not part of the OP, then find an appropriate thread or create one for them, please.Renaming - This is covered above in this thread. My mind has not changed on the subject. Healing Methods - Our goal has been to be sort of "HCR-Lite" with our systems. Healing from items here is based on your heal skill plus a value assigned to the item used. Originally, negative heal skills subtracted from the results and could result in "healing someone to death". We removed that possibility here. Also, when comparing prices for healing to other PWs ... consider it can be found for free here. WHAT?!?! Yeah, free. Not as strong as the healing kits but free. Where you ask? Our various herb plots. Go and "pick" some today and see for yourself. While success isn't guaranteed, you also get a small XP reward when you succeed. Further, many food items and other things provide small amounts of healing when used. Our systems are meant to benefit all levels of characters, but favor low level charaters when it comes to healing percentages of your total hit points. Bard Systems - Various systems for bards as well as other classes and races will be considered after the initial launch of or EE server.
