So yesterday, my Wizard (Lilibeza Hillington) dinged Level 4 and raised her Intelligence to 18, which also moved her from the +3 bracket to the +4 bracket. How would I go about having her learn a new language, perhaps one which would further her Arcane studies (such as Abyssal, Elven or Mulhorandi)? Thank you in advance.

*bump* ...since I just now realized that Lilibeza's base Intelligence has grown to 19 since her inception. (And I'll probably be back here after she gains three more Levels. Thirst for knowledge is a wonderful thing. )

Oh, I guess I should have switched to Lilibeza while Kal was in-game. When should I try again?

On a related note, Fluttering Hawk (my Monk) just went from Intelligence 13 (+1) to Intelligence 14 (+2). She presently speaks Mulhorandi and Shou, either of which may be her native language. You know how some of the major cities in the USA and Canada have a "Chinatown" area full of Chinese and other Oriental immigrants, as well as people descended from those immigrants, and how those descendents are American or Canadian bilinguals who speak both English and Mandarin (or English and Thai, or English and Viet...whatever the specific lineage may be)? Hawk's situation is kind of like that: A bunch of Shou got tired of the Tuigans getting past the Dragonwall and raiding and sacking their villages all the time, so they moved to Mulhorand and started having kids, and that's where Piao Piao Ying (or "Fluttering Hawk") comes in.
So for lack of a Rosetta Stone language-learning program, what might be a good roleplaying sort of avenue for Hawk to start picking up another language?

Thank you, Kal! Fluttering Hawk now has what she needs (and I thank you for suggesting Tuigan; maybe one day, she can go back to Shou Lung and beat back the Tuigan hordes who drove her grandparents out of Shou Lung in the first place...but probably not). As for Lilibeza, thank you for the Abyssal widget; apparently Lilibeza's evenings with Gustav were well-spent. But I'm not sure if she's caught up yet: Chondathan (her native language, being Amnian) + Damaran (another tongue spoken widely around Amn; Intelligence 12+) + Draconic (the Dragon Tongue, a common language among Wizards; Intelligence 14+) + Infernal (for devil magic and other Inferno-related knowledge; Intelligence 16+) + Abyssal (for demon magic and other Abyss-related knowledge; Intelligence 18+) Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but wouldn't Lilibeza have become eligible to gain another language at Intelligence 20? And if so, what's a good choice? • Mulhorandi (the language of ancient, mystic Mulhorand as well as Thay, the land of the Red Wizards and all their arcane advances) • Ignan (the language of fire elementals, a good choice for a refined Evoker like Lilibeza) • Terran, Auran and/or Aquan (the other three elemental languages, which may also find use among evokers and wizards in general) • Elven (as elves are very well inclined to pursue arcane magic and have had many centuries to perfect its wielding) • Undercommon (another realm where her matron Shar holds dominion, and where drow elves, duergar, svirfneblin, beholders and other spell-weavers dwell in darkness) • Netherese (the tongue of the same old, magic-steeped land which gave us Karsus, one of the most powerful archmages to ever walk the earth. And Gustav has enlightened Lilibeza in a chat about Karse and Karsus before....) • [insert another suggestion here] I'm all ears. And thanks again, Kal!
