Well, I never did get around to organizing anything for Google+ D&D session (partly because I was scared of it), but I might be willing to do something on the forums here.
Phase 1: Roll your character.
3.5e, point-buy system like in NWN, with the same number of points. So you can use NWN to help you generate your character.
Races are limited to PHB.
Classes are limited to PHB. This means no prestige classes (for now).
Feats are limited to... *drumroll* ...PHB.
Setting is a little world called Gaio. All-out wars have been unseen (in this region) in the last four hundred years, but there have been occasional skirmishes with the less-civilized half-orcs and goblinoids. Elves live in their poncy little forests, halflings live in their dirty little holes, gnomes live in their woodsy little villages, dwarves live in their stinky little caves, and humans live wherever they can breed breed.
Technology: dwarves and (some) elves have developed quite the advanced metallurgy, creating some interesting mithril alloys. They guard their secrets closely; very few living members of the shorter-lived races have seen mithril, and none know how to work it. Since the last few hundred years have been peaceful, no great advancements have been made beyond tinkering with different types of steel.
Magic: Quite rare. There is a certain spark one must be born with to study the arcane, and there will still be no guarantee that a caster will learn more than a few cantrips. Perhaps one in every thousand has the spark connecting them to the weave.
Religion: gods are as found in the PHB, or make your case to me. Doesn't really matter, as no gods have talked to mortals (apart from giving them spells) since the last war. Like arcanists, priests rarely learn more than a few cantrips.
Please post a character concept if you are interested. I will determine how much starting gold you get based off of that. You can use gold to purchase items as described in the PHB. Special Substances and Items found in the PHB (or here) cost 10x listed price due to their rare nature.
