Just throwing another idea out there. In pnp "point blank shot" used to remove the Aoo from using ranged weaponry in melee range. I'm not sure if it still does, but I was wondering if it would be possible to add an extra feat to do this, or make it an innate feature of arcane archer or something
This, however, isn't much of a big deal since I suppose in the grand scheme of things if you have the AC to be useing a bow in melee in the first place than 1 extra attack per round from the enemy doesn't matter untill you get multiple enemies fighting you

pretty sure that's not 3.5 because in 3.5 pbs removed the penalty for being within 30 feet as well as removing Aoo

Actually, I checked in my 3.5 Player's Handbook after I checked the SRD, but before I posted that. Here's what the PHb says: POINT BLANK SHOT [GENERAL]You are skilled at making well-placed shots with ranged weapons at close range. Benefit: you get a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with ranged weapons on ranges of up to 30 feet. Special: A fighter may select Point Blank Shot as one of his fighter bonus feats (see page 38). I also did not see anything in the section talking about attacks of opportunity, nor did I see a note next to the entry for ranged attacks in Table 8-2: Actions in Combat. Although I think it would be cool to have a feat that prevents AoOs for ranged weapons in combat, I'm guessing implementing one would involve some pretty nasty work. It would involve changing feats.2da if a new feat was added (thus needing a hak update), modifying the .tlk file (thus needing to re-download this file, too), and doing some serious work with the NWN extender, which I have no idea whether it is possible or not. But I'm not a developer here; these are just assumptions.

No changes are forthcoming in regards to this topic.
If you use a missile weapon in combat, then a high Dexterity and some points in Tumble will help.
