One goal here has ever to have had wands and rods that you had to equip inorder to use. We accomplished that by changing them into "clubs" that resembled the desired effect. Soon though, we'll be changing them back to their actual original base item models again. When "they" are reverted, any existing wands or rods will continue to work. Newly bought, found or crafted ones however will become the familiar old style ones though ... with one change. While retaining the appearances of the default Bioware models, they'll also require equipping. I.e., held in a hand. The reasons are threefold for changing them again as listed below. 1) Reverting back to their base types will further reduce the costs to craft/enchant them. 2) Since they will no longer use a "club" weapon as their base, they'll both weigh less and in the case of wands, be duel wielded by even gnomes and haflings. 3) There will be far more appearance options for them. We can then set each wand or rod to gain a specific appearance. This means that PCs/Players will be able to eventually learn ICly IG the difference between a Wand of Magic Missiles and a Wand of Fire Balls visually. Since the above will require both players and the server to use a custom hak, no date has yet been set. Included in our coming SF Custom Hak will be changes to RDDs so they become a Dragon Disciple based on matching alignments to colors along with tweaks to both Shadow Dancer and Shifter PrCs. A big thanks to "cloudeagle" for helping me test last night too.
