I used to play WoW extensively until it was overrun by people who suck at pvp and do not know how to listen... heh.
I seen this game a little while back and thought it looked promising. The reason I did not really have thoughts of buying it was because I didn't know if any of my old friends would leave WoW for it. But WoW seems to be collapsing in on itself so all of my RL friends from my guild are making the transition so I bought it.
Been playing for about a week now. Well sort of because of RL issues and lag filled internet due to my boss haha. It seems like a good game and like WoW will probably soak up a lot of my game time so that I can play with my old friends again.
This is not a post to announce my retirement I assure you. But mainly a post to state that I will be popping on from time to time to check things out and play a bit with you all. You're my friends too. You just won't see me as much.

I was thinking of giving Rift a shot. My brother played through the beta, and he has nothing but beneficent words for it.
Is there a trial at all?

Sadly no. Like with every other MMO, you will probably have to wait close to a year before a free trail will be offered.
And your brother would be correct. Think WoW, but for a more mature player base. Not that everyone that plays is mature =p
It's really cool and keeps you interested by offering talents and such as early as level 2. There is no "weapon skills" so if your char can use it, no need to go out and spend 45 mins leveling the weapon just to be able to hit stuff. (I could go on but that would take a while lol) It really is a WoW type clone, but what game isn't some type of clone any more.

What's funny, WoW was built on games like this and EQ. So in essence you are a WoW type by association with the grandfather game =p.
And honestly, NWN is a veritably slowed down version of WoW lul.

Yes. That's why I put: WoW was built on games like this and EQ. And when compared: NWN is a veritably slowed down version of WoW =]
