Well considering they've proved that certain kinds of music helps plants grow... and can be soothing I guess to any animal/living thing... Dolphins are also incredibly smart *shrug* who knows. People do funny things.
Though I must add since it came to my mind....

How does he even know they like it? I get the feeling he hasn't actually tested it. Well considering they've proved that certain kinds of music helps plants grow... Citation needed.

Wow, they did a really nice job with that! Often Mythbusters has some inconclusive studies that they claimed conclusive results from, but this appeared to be a lot better. It seems plants respond well to sound? I should look up some official studies about this.

Wow, they did a really nice job with that! Often Mythbusters has some inconclusive studies that they claimed conclusive results from, but this appeared to be a lot better. It seems plants respond well to sound? I should look up some official studies about this. Actually, its not truly sound they react to. Its a side effect of sound and can actually be replicated and more effective using a much simpler method ... its called a fan. They did one thing right though. Talking face to leaf would have scewed the results. Plants use carbon dioxide to grow and people spending time in those huts would have enriched the growing atmosphere and it would have likely shown those as the winners. (Greenhouse growers actually use CO2 injectors to speed growth in commercial greenhouses) Sound creates waves, ripples in the air and movement. These although small ripples, cause the plants stems to vibrant or sway even if not perceptable. This swaying tells the plant to thicken its stem and roots to prevent breaking and dieing from the stress. A byproduct of a thicker stem and roots is also the ability to uptake minerals and water and convert CO2 at a faster pace. So constant noise of most any type would benefit plants in a greenhouse environment. Fans, especially oscillating ones have the same benefit and due to the often more exagerated movements caused, plants grow thicker and heartier even faster. Fans also have the extra benefit of removing excess water from foilage after watering and can help reduce fungal based plant diseases without need for chemicals and this too results in faster, heartier growth. As for the OP on dolphins ... I gotta say yum! *wanders off to prepare a DLT for lunch* (DLT ... Dolphin, lettuce and tomato ... preferably on rye with dijon mustard)

Kalb knows a lot about greenhouses. Whatcha growing Kalb? Huh? Huh? ;D "Herbs" of course. In actuality, I've been gardening and experimenting with greenhouses and even aquaculture for 20+ years now. Without any discussion of a possible misspent youth *coughs* I can say I've only grown actual cooking herbs and vegetables.** **Legal disclaimer: This only attests to my time since returning to Michigan.
