I've seen a few new players on recently. I've interacted with some and been pleased by the level of RP. In the hope that these new players will stick around I'm posting a few of my thoughts on how to succeed on SFS.
Other players are welcome to contribute!
Always put a point in disable traps and open locks. Although you can smash our crates here, the loot you will get out will be of a lower quality. You also get XP for disarming certain traps and opening locks. A great deal of the DCs are 22 or below, so as long as you don't try disarming in combat a couple of points will see you through the game, give you better loot and help with bonus XP.
Always carry an invisibility potion for when things get rough. Make sure it is quickslotted for easy access.
Always carry a healing kit when partying for use on your comrades when they are bleeding out. Make sure it is quickslotted for easy access.
Have more than one PC Having more than one PC means you can chop and change to suit who is on. Whilst it's great that you have a RP build PC, that PC isn't likely to be great if you want to solo.
Make a map as you explore There are a lot of areas on SFS and some of them can be hard to find. Some of our best maps are well off the beaten track. If you can find a guide to show you that's great, but draw a map as you go, just so you can get there again. A simple straight line diagram map like that shown below works fine.
Don't be afraid to RP whilst soloing You never know when a DM is watching and I for one will make it worth your while!
Feel free to PM other players to ask if they are up for an adventure. You can then agree to meet up and RP it from there.
Sell your loot in the right place Specialist shops tend to give you more than general stores, so don't sell all your loot in the one place.
Learn which items are worth picking up Some items take up a lot of space and/or weight, but leaving those and only taking saleable items you're more likely to make a profit. Keep a hold of any large boxes you find in loot.
