I have a 7 appraise and have yet to see a favorable or neutral from a merchant. So I am assuming there is some disadvantages to being non human especially half orc when it comes to shops and appraise.
How much do non humans suffer when dealing with merchant shops?

Yes, sub races are sometimes at a disadvantage here with merchants, especially half-orcs. There should however, in time, be some merchants that won't "judge" so harshly for half-orcs. But by playing on you should know already that the merchants, or npcs will rarely look kindly upon your pc. That just comes with playing a half-orc. Am sure Kal will answer more on this in terms of how much of a disadvantage half-orcs are at.

So I am assuming there is some disadvantages to being non human especially half orc when it comes to shops and appraise. How much do non humans suffer when dealing with merchant shops? You folk should look less at OOC results and more at IC ones, especially as regards appraise here. Without going into details, even a "unfavorable" result when your PC has a few points of appraise can produce a markedly improved sell or buy cost. When you talk to a merchant here. your PC makes a skill check (1d20 + appraise skill) VS the merchant. Most PWs give little thought until it's too late on how to set up merchants for this. Our merchants have two things that set prices offered here. Their sell/buy markup/down percentages and their appraise points. The gap between what items are sold for and what they are purchased from a PC for have been fairly closely calculated here. It's a wide gap, but it also pre-empts many appraise exploits seen elsewhere. Appraise has been also factored into the mix. Trust me or not, but even "unfavorable" or "neutral" results will net alot more most times than a PC that has few or no points invested in appraise. Because appraise checks are skill checks (though the actual roll is hidden) a merchant rolling a 1 or a PC a 20 both mean the PC would get a "favorable" price, even if mathmatically the gap would say otherwise. Outside of the dwarves and elves, there are no other current merchants that will refuse or penalaise a half orc .... yet. Eventually that can change.

I'll confirm what kalbraen said for you because I've actually seen it in game. even with 0 skill ranks soraya will sometimes roll lucky and be able to sell things for 100% more than her worse reactions.
