Hello, everyone.
I just want to announce that I would like to make myself available for some level of individualized attention for the development of people's characters and stories. The plot that I'm running on Wednesday nights is moving into a place where the end is at least in sight on the horizon, so I'm kind of looking at the next project I'd like to work on. That being the case, I am offering my services to help to develop people's PC's according to their backstory and the given player's goals for the character. In order to do that, I need a little bit of information from people about their characters, including:
- Name, class, race, level, alignment of relevant character.
- Basic synopsis of the character's background, 3 paragraphs or less.
- Goals for the development of the character, such as deeds to accomplish, personal characteristics to portray, tests to undergo, changes to happen, concepts to demonstrate, etc.
- Basic description of why you, the player, want to do what it is you want to do, in one to three paragraphs.
- Level of willingness to accept "consequences" for character actions, including what sorts of "consequences" you are more or less willing to accept. There will be no judgment, positive or negative, based on what you say, I simply want to have an idea how to match challenges, risk levels, and types of potential outcomes to what you are and are not looking for. The one thing I would ask is that you would not ask for serious challenges and then change your mind if things don't turn out as you wanted them to.
The above information should be submitted to me here on the forum in a private message.
What you can expect as a result of submitting a request is individualized attention in the form of short scenes that add flavor to your character's life. This would include things like: quests assigned by an NPC that have you adventuring on your own in specified areas against the normal server spawns to accomplish a specific purpose; mentoring by an NPC in preparation for taking a new class, especially a prestige class, or other character change; occasional appearances of a specific character nemesis from your PC's backstory to draw other PC's into the conflict between your PC and their enemy; a quest to corrupt or redeem another PC in the name of your character's god through open ended role play; an assignment from an NPC to solve a particular riddle that will likely require you to interact with other PC's independent of DM attention; visits by friendly characters from your PC's backstory to bring their character history to life; portrayal of important events that are intended as character backstory in front of the eyes of other PC's you want to involve (i.e. the bandits didn't murder your character's aunt before your PC arrived on the server, they did it at Tantarn's Inn while your PC's new acquaintances were drinking ales with you downstairs) ... etc.
For the time being, I ask people to choose one character per player to submit a request for attention. Depending how things go, I may open things up more at a later time, but for now, I'm asking players to limit themselves to one character per player for this sort of attention. I will do my best to give each player who submits a request one scene of individualized play time per week actually interacting with NPC's as a response to such a request for as long as it takes to accomplish the RP goal of the scene, up to one hour at a time. Given my current schedule, this goal should be easy to meet. This will be in addition to what ever other events I have going on, and players who take me up on this opportunity are welcome as always to participate in any other events I may run, including scenes of this sort that I do for other players as appropriate to RP.
Looking forward to hearing from you, and may all your saves come up1's *cough* 20's!
