According to the What can I play as Here?, But the region selector at character creation says this: And then the Languages Spoken Here thread does not list Shou. From the Altar of Language in character creation: So. 1) Can I play a character from Kara-Tur? 2) Also, I'm guessing I can take Shou as a learned language (one of my characters already has), but I'm not sure because of the conflicting information. Is it against the rules to take it? 3) Would it be all right for someone who is not at all Kara-Turan to take Shou if it is part of his history in a monastery?

his questions actually bring up something I wanted to know. On FRC I rped a woman who was born in cormyr to cormyrian parents. her father was a merchant and went to Kara-Tur and got himself arrested and jailed, then ended up dying in prison. She was taken in by a local clan, and had a more or less kara-turan upbringing. Would I be allowed to play that character here on sfs?

1) Can I play a character from Kara-Tur? A: No. You can however play a PC descended from Kara-Turan parents or have been born there, but your formative years (from toddler on) were spent in Faerun.
2) Also, I'm guessing I can take Shou as a learned language (one of my characters already has), but I'm not sure because of the conflicting information. Is it against the rules to take it? A: If your PC lacks a heritage (like Kara-Turan parents), the should not take Shou initially. ICly learning IG afterwards from other PCs is fine though (assuming you've a language slot free).
3) Would it be all right for someone who is not at all Kara-Turan to take Shou if it is part of his history in a monastery? A: No. Shou would not be integral to any Faerunian Monasteries.
