Okay, time to get this back on track... no-good stinkin' hijackers!
A tavern in Orlbar is suggested. Seediness and whether or not gagging reflexes should be stimulated within isn't really something I'd like. We have enough of that every time we pass by the one in Llorkh.
I was thinking a very small tavern, no more than 2 x 2 squares, but preferably 2 x 1 square since it -is- a backwater dungpile of a village. No resting quarters, just a bar, a couple of tables and a fireplace.
Thoughts? (thoughts on brothels and such have already been aired here)

Food purchase available please. Not necessarily anythign fancy, just basic food supplies. And maybe use it as a source of random RP encounters. it would be a great potential jumping off point for events. You might walk in one day and suddenly a brawl erupts. Or you could encounter a stranger that you never met before with an odd story.
An In-game bulletin board might be nice too. Not the kind that FRC used to have, with OOC messages. But an actual IG/IC board. Where characters could post IG messages, like, "Noric, ranger, looking for assistance." Or something like that.

It's partly because of the habit of FRC players of all levels hanging around the inn in their starting town that we don't have one in our starting town here. You'll notice that every other town and city we have has them, Llorkh has two, Loudwater has a very nice inn that sells food that's great for starting players.

At least two more "source based" inns are scheduled for Llorkh and there's Zelbross that needs completed still. As for an Inn or Tavern in Orlbar, I'd hoped to avoid it. Mainly for the reason DM Arsescratcher mentioned. With few players on and many switching to lower level PCs to meet and help get new players started, I can understand the sentiment. I've had tons of requests to simply make Orlbar "prettier" or larger by many players too. We've actually tried to keep it small and plain to encourage folk to go elsewhere though. Not having a huge player base hurts in this regard, I know. We can hope and plan for the future though. I do have some player driven features on "The List" still though. Mainly an herb buyer (which I may add to a newer wooded area somewhere soon) and dairy products, which we'll have sold by the goat farmer "Jesh" I think.

This brings up another topic, that probably deserves its own thread. The sheer difficulty of transportation/travel for a newbie who doesn't have any money or know their way around. When I first started on here, before I met anyone and I was playing off-peak hours, I felt almost penned in. There's no in-game direction to finding out where Lhork or Loudwater are located. The only way to get there is by boat, unless you are persistent enough to figure out how to use the widget and the starting area teleporter on your own (I wasn't).
Why isn't there some other way to travel to Lhork on foot? It doesn't have to be easy or safe. Just possible. Maybe make it a multi-day journey with wayhouses along the route where a newbie needs to hide and wait out the danger's of the night? While dealing with the dangers of the road along the way?
Or something. But not every class has a knack for making gobs and scads of money at low levels, especially when you spend it faster than you can make it on potions. I realize that you don't really want to encourage lowbies to wander around in the high level area and get eaten. But hey, what's adventure without danger and serious challenge?
Anyway, I just wanted to mention that at least one newbie really felt hamstrung by being fenced in this way. I wanted to strike off cross-country with my ranger. (Rangers and druids are outdoors men after all. What's the point of having extra feats for outdoor stalking and fighting if you dont use them?)

If a PC cannot afford the price of a round trip (50gp each way) then there's little reason for them to go there. Yes, there is also a way to walk there. Due to where both Orlbar and Llorkh sit according to the source books though, its a long and dangerous walk. I can't imagine anyone under 8-th levels making it. In general, you can find some sort of "resting allowed" area every 3-5 maps here. Large expansive dungeons sometimes have an area that allows you to rest and take a break also.

There is a little background information in the OOC area, but a signpost at Llorkh, Dawn trail wouldn't hurt. I'll see if I can drop one in for now. The description on the OOC widget could be revised to make it easier for new players, that should help. It also has a typo that I didn't spot!
