I'm starting a local campaign with some buddies, and I figured a really nice setting would be... the southern edge of the High Forest, around 1368. It's completely a coincidence, I swear.
But yeah. Is it okay if I send 'em to the forums here for all the sweet, sweet lore that Leve posted? Looks like they don't need to be registered to view.

Thanks. Only one of them has had any sort of Forgotten Realms experience, and that was from him playing a little NWN (probably just the OC) a few years ago.
As basic information, I told them about the Time of Troubles happening ten years earlier, Kelemvor just becoming a god this year, and how the Tree Ghost tribe (one of the players is playing a Tree Ghost Uthgardt) split off from the Blue Bear tribe in 1313. I also said that elves in this region were generally a bit leery of humans (some of it being from Karsus, Hellgate Keep, and the general unruliness of humanity), and the region is sparsely populated, with the various settlements having to deal with monstrous humanoids who don't want homesteaders. Am I forgetting anything important?

Well, there hasn't been much going on on this forum, so I've got questions for others who have DMed 3.5 D&D. We've got a group of five characters (sometimes four), and it seems like matching CRs with their levels is a bit easy for them still. For example, when they were all level 2, I matched them with a few mixed monsters all of whose CR totaled 2, but the PCs blew through them easily, even with almost no magical gear. Am I calculating incorrectly? The encounter calculator at the d20 SRD said it was right.

pretty much its a pretty hard to judge thing, what happens is the pcs on a good day can plan and blast through almost anything in their cr range, what I tended to do was up the cr to real difficulty for the finale of the session and throw in one or two totally randome encounters, since they could be almost anything sometimes the group had to decide to flee, but often enough good team work and quick thinking let them either lead the opposition away or let them overcome it. Also a good non combat encounter is puzzles and theres also competitions that can be used to spice up an evenings play without going into the monster manual for a beefier monster .

It would be a bummer if you got here and we had to cancel because not enough other people were available.
